Benefits of shea butter for your lips.

Shea butter is a natural ingredient that hydrates and softens lips.

Lips are one of the most exposed areas on the body, often showing the first signs of aging. That's why it's important to take good care of them by using a lip balm that contains Shea Butter.

Shea Butter is a natural humectant that helps draw water into your skin to keep your lips healthy and hydrated. When you apply shea butter topically, the fatty acids, linoleic, oleic, stearic, and palmitic acids, are quickly absorbed into your lips to create a moisture barrier. Shea butter is also a great source of vitamins A, E, and F, which help protect your lips from the sun and wind and lock in moisture for long-lasting hydration. Because of this, shea butter is known to help soothe dry lips and promote skin elasticity, which is why we use it in our All Day Lip Balm!

Where does shea butter come from?

Oil is extracted from shea tree nuts and is then purified into shea butter.

Shea butter is a natural product from the Shea tree, mainly found in West Africa. The Shea tree produces a nut containing a fatty oil called Shea Butter. This oil is extracted and then purified to create Shea Butter, which was traditionally used for its antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties.

Is shea butter safe for my skin?

Shea butter has a creamy consistency that's easy to spread on your skin. It's off-white or ivory-colored and has a slightly nutty smell. And, even though it's a part of the tree-nut family, cases of allergic reactions to shea butter are rare, making it a low-risk, natural ingredient for topical use in things like lip balms and body butter.

Can I use shea butter as a natural sunscreen?

While some may claim shea butter is a natural sunscreen, its estimated SPF of 3 to 4 is not enough to protect you from the sun's harmful UV rays. What it can do, though, is help keep your lips hydrated and treat chapped or cracked lips that have been sunburned.

Does shea butter make your lips dry?

No! Because shea butter is an emollient, it helps hydrate your lips quickly and softens them over time.

Although Shea Butter has all of these great benefits, we stopped adding it to our All Day Lip Balm in 2023. We found it can sometimes make lip balm feel a bit grainy, and we didn’t like the idea of people having an inconsistent or unpleasant experience. So, we updated our formula, and it’s honestly better than before.
